Retrace the areas of the famous 12 bloody battles of the Isonzo. You will leave from Caporetto, famous for the defeat of the Italian army, where highly trained guides will illustrate the bloody episodes that occurred in these territories, leaving you, in moments, dismayed by what happened; the following day you will have the opportunity to climb one of the three hills overlooking Gorizia, which were the scene of bloody battles that caused hundreds of thousands of deaths.
Against so much sadness, you will reconcile your soul with the sight of natural beauties and unique and unforgettable panoramas; and there will certainly be convivial moments in which your palates will be delighted and satisfied by quality food and wines cooked by expert chefs. You certainly cannot leave without having tasted the fine wines that now make these border lands famous.
ITINERARY
Arrival at a historic hotel in the center of Gorizia. This will be followed by a welcome drink and a briefing on the days you will be guests. Dinner will follow in a nice restaurant nearby where you can taste gourmet dishes accompanied by typical local wines.
Departure at 8.30 towards Kobarid (in Slovenian) or Caporetto. There will be a guide at your complete disposal who will detail you for about 5 hours on the great war, in particular on the 12 battle of the Isonzo (the defeat of Caporetto). You will be accompanied inside a very rich and interesting museum of the Great War where you will have the opportunity to learn many specifics of the First World War. You will continue along a historical path (about 7 km with about 200 meters of elevation gain) that will take you to see an ossuary, you will cross the trenches, paths, positions and the defense line of the Italian army; unmissable and unmissable to see will be the Kozjak waterfalls; finally on the way back you will pass on the historic Napoleon bridge;
Around 2 - 2.30 pm at the end of the tour you will be hosted in a nearby restaurant to enjoy a well-deserved lunch with the opportunity to taste excellent fish or typical Slovenian specialties.
After lunch, you will continue towards Gorizia but it will be a must to make a detour to Tomino to admire the Tomino gorges at the beginning of the Triglav national park. A walk of about 1h and a half immersed in truly suggestive landscapes and scenarios where two streams meet and create unique gorges, pools and ravines.
Return to the hotel around 7pm.
After a healthy nap, you will be pre-washed at the hotel to go and have dinner in Slovenja in a typical restaurant in nearby Nova Gorica to taste other typical Slovenian dishes (meat is recommended); in conclusion you can take a walk in the pedestrian center of the town across the border or, for those interested, go to the nearby Casino to try their luck.
In the evening you will be guests in another excellent restaurant on the Isola del Sole. A wonderful opportunity to taste high quality local products prepared according to centuries-old traditions, the most famous local dish is the boreto a la graisàna, a traditional local fish soup.
Absolutely unmissable will be the walk after dinner in the alleys of the suggestive historic center of Grado entertained by the guide who will tell you particular stories and anecdotes: get ready to discover some of its hidden treasures.
The departure will be comfortably around 9.30; following a suggestive path along the Italian and Slovenian Collio where you will admire the thousands of vineyards, fruit trees and olive trees that are grown on these slopes, in about an hour you will arrive on Mount Sabotino, the scene of bloody battles. From there you will enjoy a splendid view over the cities of Gorizia and Nova Gorica and the view can be lost until you see the sea. There will be a very nice guide who will take you to relive the dark days of life in the trenches and will tell you about the multiple assaults (some of the famous battles of the Isonzo) that were carried out by the Italian army to conquer the peak occupied by the Austo army. Hungarian. You will enter the trenches, but above all in the soldiers' shelter, of eight floors, dug into the rock: you will be catapulted 100 years back and you will have the opportunity to imagine the emotions that the soldiers had to experience in those precarious conditions on this 600-meter hill that overlooks the city of Gorizia and Nova Gorica. A visit to the new multimedia museum will also be inevitable, which in addition to further narrating the horrors of the Great War, will reserve you at the end of the emotions of hope and serenity.
The visit to Mount Sabotino will end in the adjacent refuge for lunch to taste Slovenian home-cooked dishes.
In the afternoon you will be accompanied again to the lands of wine passing Brda and the Collio crossing the Preval and arriving in Cormons for a visit to the local wine shop where you can enjoy a wine tasting accompanied by some local cured meats. For those who wish, there will also be the opportunity to buy bottles of wine (Friulano, Pinot grigio, Malvasia and Ribolla Gialla are recommended).
Around 5 pm you will be taken back to the hotel for the final farewell.
