Visit Cividale del Friuli, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, an elegant town with a rich and intriguing history. Cividale is famous above all for its Lombard history and for a more exciting past than its current relaxing atmosphere suggests. Today a Unesco World Heritage Site, Cividale del Friuli is rich in history and art.
You can also admire the hills of the Colli Orientali del Friuli where excellent quality wines are produced and have the opportunity to taste some of them.
ITINERARY
You will meet the guide, near the location booked for the short holiday in Cividale del Friuli and the nearby eastern Collio after the check-in in time for a welcome cocktail during which the first indications on the Friulian stay will be given. Walking freely through the pretty ancient streets of Cividale, we will give you directions to find a historic restaurant where you can enjoy the best traditional Friulian cuisine. After lunch, the guide will be happy to accompany you, explaining the history of the town through visits to the cathedral church, the Lombard Temple, the Celtic Apogee and the Archaeological Museum. It will be an exciting dive into history.
The day will end with a special dinner near Cividale in the midst of the prestigious vineyards of that area. Particular importance in addition to food will undoubtedly be given to the wines that will be recommended and paired with the dishes.
After breakfast the guide will take you to visit the Sanctuary of the Beata Vergine di Castelmonte which is one of the oldest Christian sanctuaries dating back to about 1500 years ago. Perched on the top of an isolated hill 618m above sea level in the Julian Alps near Cividale del Friuli, the sanctuary was built as a Roman garrison for vision and defense during the 5th century invasions. It was at the beginning of the twentieth century that the Sanctuary was donated to the Franciscan Capuchins. You will be guided through the different buildings of this sanctuary and you will enjoy, from the top of the sanctuary, the breathtaking view of the lands around Cividale del Friuli and neighboring Slovenia.
Lunch in a local trattoria with typical Friulian dishes such as the famous frico highly recommended to try.
In the afternoon we will go into the hills adjacent to Cividale to visit a winery to discover the secrets that make the Collio wine one of the most prestigious in the world. A tasting of what is produced in that cellar will follow. Return to relax and go to dinner in a restaurant in the city center: you will be served a special dinner tasting food cooked according to the Friulian traditions and accompanied by superb wine.

Breakfast Check out and departure with the guide along the streets of Collio to admire the fascinating views of the hills where the extraordinary wine of Friuli is produced to arrive in Cormons, the nerve center of Collio where, in a splendid square, you can be advised and followed in the choice of wines in the wine shop of the Consortium of Collio wines. It will be in this particular place, the farewell of the holiday.
