The Jewish presence in Gorizia dates back to the sixteenth century when a small community arose which gave birth to various illustrious personalities such as the Morpurgo and Pincherle families, engaged in loan activities. Nel 1998 è stato allestito il moderno museo ebraico, intitolato “Gerusalemme sull’Isonzo”, che illustra la storia del popolo d’Israele dai tempi biblici alla diaspora, con la descrizione dei riti e delle tradizioni e con una sezione dedicata ai dipinti del filosofo Carlo Michelstaedter. The synagogue was used by the Jewish community until 1969, when it was merged with that of Trieste and today it is no longer used for worship.
